Description: The port Jebel Ali is located on the Gulf coast approx 37km SW of Dubai.
General Overview: The outer basin has a length of 2.3km, width 600m, depth 14m and the inner basin has a length of 3.7km, width 425m, depth 11.5m. The main axis of both basins is 047°-227°. Facilities exist to accommodate ro-ros, container ships, bulkers, general cargo vessels and tankers.
ARRIVAL INFORMATION
ETA's: Vessels arriving at Jebel Ali port are required to provide the following, ETA:
 
1. At least 48 hours prior to arrival or on leaving the last port, whichever is later via Operation Department and/or
    Harbour Master's Office, tel: +971 4 835326, fax: +971 4 835430, telex: 47398 DPA EM.
2. Confirm the vessels ETA at least 24 hours prior to arrival at the designated pilotage area.
3. Notify ETD 1 hour prior to departure.
Prior to arrival, all vessels regardless of tonnage should provide Jebel Ali Port Control with the following information:
1. Name of vessel
2. Port of registry
3. Name of Master
4. GRT
5. LOA
6. Draft
7. Cargo to load or discharge
8. Pilot boarding arrangements
9. Number of crew indicating the number of deck crew available for manoeuvring.
10. Health information
11. Last port of call
NAVIGATION
Port limits: Port limits extend to 5nm.
Approaches: The Jebel Ali approach channel begins 8nm offshore, the channel entrance being marked by a red and white vertical striped safe water mark buoy situated at Lat 25°06'N, Long 054°33'E. The approach channel, which has a depth of 15m, is buoyed and runs in a direction 315°(T) towards the terminal. After 10nm, the channel takes a 25° bend and becomes the entrance channel, which leads into the terminal on an alignment of 340°(T)-160°(T).
The approach channel has a width if 280m reducing to 235m, in the bend the channel widens to 300m and in the entrance channel to 340m. Ships should approach the Mina Jebel Ali lightfloat in Lat 25°10'N, Long 054°52'E, Gp.Fl(3) 12secs 15M. The float lies on the axis of the channel leading into Jebel Ali terminal and from here vessels should steer 135°(T) to approach the pilot boarding area.
Anchorages: The holding ground is poor, vessels are recommended to use more cable than usual. The anchorage area is enclosed by the following four positions:
1. 25°11.30'N 054°49.75'E
2. 25°08.20'N 054°53.20'E
3. 25°05.38'N 054°49.75'E
4. 25°08.30'N 054°46.20'E
Vessels anchor in a depth of approx 16-20m.
All vessels are warned that an untrenched pipeline lies E of the channel. This line comes ashore in position Lat 25°01'N, Long 055°04.5'E, it is from 3.22km to 8.05km E of buoyed entrance channel. Vessels should not anchor near this pipeline, nor should they approach the area with anchors walked back or trailing. Several other unmarked pipelines exist to the N of Jebel Ali port limits. Anchoring other than in designated anchorages is not advisable.
Navigation aids: Jebel Ali lightfloat (Lat 25°10'N, Long 054°52'E) with a red hull and framework light tower, fitted with a radar reflector and a racon is moored 13nm NW of the entrance to the port, in addition to its main light, a quick flashing riding light is exhibited.Two power stations with conspicuous chimneys (red obstruction lights), stand on the coast 5nm NE of Mina Jebel Ali. The seaward end of the cooling water intakes for the power stations are marked by lightbuoys.

Aero lights are exhibited from 2 flare stacks situated at the gas refinery, the tanks of which are conspicuous, stand close NE of the port area.

A radio mast, 91m in height, stands on the NE side of the harbour close S of No 1 Tanker Berth.

An aluminium smelter works, which is conspicuous stands on the coast 1nm NE of the gas refinery.

Mina Jebel Ali control tower, attaining an elevation of 50m, is conspicuous on the SW side of the harbour.

Jebel Ali (Lat 25°02'N, Long 055°08'E) a conspicuous flat topped hill, 67m high, is situated 1.75nm inland and 4.5nm ENE of the entrance to Mina Jebel Ali.

Three conspicuous radio towers (red obstruction lights) stand close N of the summit of Jebel al Ali.

An earth satellite tracking station, comprising 3 large and conspicuous dish aerials, marked by obstruction lights, stand respectively, close N and W of the radio masts.

Jebel Ali hotel, with a marina fronting it, is on the coast 1.5nm W of the port.

Hassah Palace stands on the shore between the port and Jebel Ali Hotel; Hassah marina, enclosed by breakwaters, fronts the palace. A light is exhibited from a white tower with a red band on the W breakwater head.

Tugs: Three fire fighting tugs are maintained at Jebel Ali terminal. They are fully equipped with radar, multi-channel VHF radios, towing winches and towlines. Two are of 2,300hp with a bollard pull of over 30t and the third is of 3,100hp with a bollard pull of over 40t. In addition, privately owned tugs are normally available at the terminal.

Restrictions:
Pilotage is compulsory and pilots are available on a 24 hour basis. Vessels requiring a pilot should call Jebel Ali control on VHF ch 16 at least 2 hours before arrival at pilot boarding area.

All vessels (other than exempted vessels) navigating whether by entry, leaving or moving within Jebel Ali shall be under the charge of a pilot:The following vessels will be excepted ships

1. Ship of war
2. Pleasure craft
3. Ships of less than 150nrt
4. Tugs, dredgers, barges or similar vessels whose ordinary course of navigation does not extend beyond the gulf.
5. Tenders of MENAS
6. Country craft

Pilots will board from fast launches, marked "Pilots" equipped with VHF. Watch kept on VHF ch 16, callsign "Jebel Ali Pilots".
The pilot boarding area is located N of the seaward and of the channel entrance. The centre of this area is a light float marked in position Lat 2510.5'N, Long 05452'E with a radius of 1nm and exhibiting Gp.Fl(3) 12secs with visibility of 15nm.
Max size: VLCC and ULCC.

A purpose built warehouse facility that has 9 separate chambers with a controllable temperature range from -29°C to +12°C. This facility can accommodate up to 42,000m3 of reefer cargo.

Barges: None.
Ballast/slop reception: Vessels are warned that no dirty ballast discharge will be allowed within the limits of Jebel Ali Terminal. There are no shore ballast reception facilities.
